Residents at the ECG Encounter with the Public in Volta Region
Power consumers in the Ho Municipality and other parts of the Volta Region have expressed worry over what they claim was frequent drop in the voltage of power supplied to their homes.
They narrated that the voltage fluctuations and other instances of unstable power supply has led to the damage of most of their electrical appliances which has affected their daily lives and businesses.
These complaints, among others, were made when the ECG gave the residents a rare opportunity to interact with management of the company in the Volta Region. The interaction also afforded clients the opportunity to understand the operations of ECG and ways to have their issues addressed without stress.
The residents were also unhappy about the delay in replacement of burnt poles, delay in installation of new meters, late response to distress calls, poor attitude of ECG staff towards customers among others.
The Regional Manager of ECG, Ing Joseph Forson thanked the customers for their complaints and took time to explain that apart from a few cases of low voltage, majority of them were caused by poor electrical connections.
He advised the public to engage ECG and Energy Commission certified electricians to undertake all their electrical works to avoid such situations.
On the issue of delay in meter supplies and other challenges in accessing services of the company, Mr. Forson advised them to always come to the office and deal with authorized personnel instead of middlemen.
He also urged the public to report all illegal connections and misconducts of ECG staff promptly for swift redress. He assured that “your identities will be protected.”
He announced that Sogakofe and Denu will soon be enrolled onto the prepaid metering system in addition to Ho and Hohoe. He was hopeful that the internet infrastructure in other parts of the region will be improved to facilitate prepaid metering rollout in more districts.
The Manager assured their numerous customers that the Company is working tirelessly to ensure improved and consistent power supply throughout the region, adding that the public engagement is part of the many ways of getting the right feedback to improve the system.
The Regional Manager of Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC), Agbezudor Philip assured that his outfit will ensure the right processes are followed to ensure reasonable utility prices for the populace.
Majority of the customers who spoke to DAILY GUIDE expressed gratitude for the opportunity and hope it will become a frequent feature.
