Father Kills Son

POLICE IN the Eastern Region have declared wanted a man whose name was given simply as Joe for allegedly killing his son at Akyem Akroso, near Oda.

Eastern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Ebenezer Tetteh – who confirmed the incident to DAILY GUIDE – said a certain Kofi Bempong from Akyem Akroso on Valentine’s Day (Wednesday) reported that his grandson, Yaw Bempong, 2, had died in the house and that he suspected Joe was behind his death.

He said the police moved to the crime scene and arrested Adwoa Helena Bempong, 20 years, who is the mother of the child; Mary Asare, 65, the grandmother; Alex Odame, 26 and Alex Amofah, 48, who assisted in the burial of the deceased child without informing the police.

He said the prime suspect, Joe, sensing danger, bolted and the police have declared him wanted.

ASP Tetteh added that the four suspects who were grabbed had been remanded into police custody.

In a related development, the Asamankese circuit court has jailed a 42-year-old farmer, Kwaku Akese, five years for inflicting cutlass wounds on his wife, Ama Nyarkoa, after a misunderstanding ensued between them.

The incident occurred January 28, 2018, at Akyem Akroso when the victim defied orders of the convict not to attend a wedding in the area.

The victim had her right hand almost chopped off. She also suffered deep cutlass wound at her back, mouth, neck and buttocks.

Kwaku Akese, after committing the offence, went into hiding but was later apprehended when he attempted to sneak into the house and pack his belongings away.
