A 32-YEAR-OLD mobile money vendor at Kronom Cement Mu, near Kumasi, the Ashanti regional capital, has been shot dead by unknown suspected robbers, under bizarre circumstances.
Nana Yaw was, reportedly, shot dead at close range after two suspected robbers invaded his shop around 5:20pm on Saturday, eye witnesses disclosed.
According to them, the robbers arrived on a motorbike, entered his shop and asked whether he was Nana Yaw, and after affirming that he was the one, they just shot him to death.
Nana Yaw’s friend, who was with him at the time (name not known), was also shot in the leg by the blood-thirsty goons and he is currently receiving treatment at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).
The robbers, reportedly, took away some money and fled with their motorbike at top speed. The body of the deceased is currently in the morgue at KATH, awaiting autopsy.
Kwabena Tawiah, an uncle of Nana Yaw, who confirmed the report, suspected that Nana Yaw was a victim of contract killing, saying “the way he was killed suggested that somebody might have engaged the goons to kill him.
“The two gunmen arrived on a motorbike and they entered Nana Yaw’s shop as if they wanted to transfer money to someone. They then asked my nephew if he is Nana Yaw and when he said yes, they just shot him”.
Kwabena Tawiah, who was speaking on Kessben FM in Kumasi, said he is yet to confirm whether the two gunmen took away money from Nana Yaw’s shop, stressing, “They intentionally came to kill my nephew”.
According to him, the matter had been reported to the police at Afrancho, adding that even though the police have started full scale investigations, no arrest had been made yet.
Kwabena Tawiah said he was convinced that some people hired the ‘wicked’ gunmen to kill Nana Yaw, saying that he would provide names of some suspects to the police to help in their investigations.
