Khareema Aguiar
On Valentine’s Day, actress Khareema Aguiar premiered a documentary film about the aged titled ‘Edwene’ at the West Hills Mall in Accra, with a call for support to build a home for the aged.
She called on the youth to also treat the aged with respect because they deserve it.
The documentary film is directed by Elsie Obeng-Kwakye under Elsie Produktion for the Khareema Aguiar Foundation for the Aged (KAFA).
It showcases, among others, interviews with some aged persons, including widows who narrated unfair human treatment they have been going through because of their age.
According to Khareema, the backbone of every successful person is the aged. As such, the Ghanaian youth must make it a priority to serve the aged with all the respect they deserve.
“It breaks my heart to see the aged go through so much pain. I sometimes walk the street and I see the aged person going to buy something and I ask myself does he or she have a family? Where are his children? It is heartbreaking to see these people go through stuff like that,” she said.
“We all know aging comes with a lot of setbacks and challenges but we don’t care and rather tag them. They were once like us and we have forgotten we will be like them some day. Age is inevitable. How you treat an aged person today, you will be treated the same way tomorrow,” the actress advised.
The Khareema Aguiar Foundation for the Aged is a non-profitable organisation targeted at supporting the less-privileged aged in the Ghanaian society by offering them with health aid and basic human support.
The foundation has a long-term plan to build a home for the aged. Already, it has a healthcare scheme for the aged, where the foundation helps the aged to get health screening, among others.
“Our ultimate aim is to build a home for the aged, where we can house these people, keep them and give them the love that they need. We want to be there for them. That is why we put up the KAFA home project that will begin soon and I implore the public to donate to support,” she added.
The documentary’s premiere on Wednesday was attended by a number of personalities like Bisamark The Joke, Luckie Lawson, Peter Ritchie, Genesis and a host of others.
