There was drama when the polls to elect the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Women’s Organizer in the Manhyia South Constituency ended in a stalemate on Saturday.
The two main competitors, Mary Coker and Helena Pinamang, surprisingly polled 199 votes each.
The third contestant, Ama Dapaah, obtained 23 votes.
There was tension at the venue when the EC officials, who supervised the successful elections, started to count the ballot papers.
Many pundits argued that the polls would be keenly contested by Mary Coker and Helena Pinamang.
Supporters of both Mary Coker and Helena Pinamang were anxious during the counting of the ballot papers.
In the end, the people, who were present at the venue, were stunned when both Mary Coker and Helena Pinamang polled 199 votes each.
The stalemate led to noise-making at the venue, as supporters of the two contestants argued intensely.
The EC officials, who were fair and firm, declared that there was no winner in the women organizer elections.
It was announced that a new date would be fixed so that fresh polls would be conducted to determine the winner.
Meanwhile, Helena Pinamang, who was seeking re-election, has called for a recount of the ballot papers.
A petition, which DAILY GUIDE sighted, said “I, Helena Pinamang, contesting for the women organizer position, has called for recount. I hope my petition will be considered.
The petition was addressed to the chairman of election committee in the constituency.
