Market women being screened
The Rebecca Foundation, a humanitarian initiative of the Ghanaian First Lady, Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo has screened and treated over 1000 market women and residents of Cape Coast metropolis in the Central Region of various diseases recently.
They were given medication after the screening which was themed “Good Health”.
Speaking to the media after the exercise, the coordinator for the programme, Dr Azumah Abdul Tawab said they had screened people for hypertension, diabetes, hepatitis and malaria which were some of the major ailments affecting majority of people in the country.
He noted that the outreach had also helped create awareness among the residents on the need to practice proper sanitation in their respective areas.
Dr Tawab stated that the Foundation aims at reducing the incidence of malaria among women and children under 5 years by the year 2020.
“We would tackle the current trend and accelerate the reduction of malaria and malnutrition as well as continue to support anyone who needs help to undergo surgery.”
The Rebecca Foundation has for a year now been able to screen more than 2000 women and children in four regions and hope to extend its services to other regions of the country.
