Soldier, Cop Remanded For Robbery

A military officer, a cop (policeman) and an unemployed man have been remanded into custody by an Accra circuit court for allegedly robbing a university student of an amount of GH?4,000 at Lapaz, a suburb of Accra.

Corporal Bernard Tsagli, 38, military officer at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra; Lance Corporal Isaac Amejor, 33, police officer and Crossby Danso Ofori, 39, unemployed, reportedly tailed the victim to the  Lapaz branch of Global Access Bank where she went to withdraw some money.

They are said to have succeeded in robbing her when she came out of the banking hall. They allegedly rushed her into a taxi, which was waiting outside.

The three suspects are before the court over  two counts of conspiracy to commit crime and robbery.

They all pleaded not guilty and the court, presided over by Aboagye Tandoh, remanded them to reappear on April 17, 2018.

The accused persons were arrested last month by the police for allegedly attacking and robbing some customers of different banks on the Spintex Road, Lapaz and other parts of Accra.

They are said to have been harassing their victims and taking money from them at gunpoint.

Prior to their arrest, the police are said to have received numerous complaints from persons who had fallen victim to the exploits of the soldier and his accomplices.

Habit

This is not the first time the soldier has been arrested for a similar offence. He was arrested on May 14, 2018 together with a taxi driver at Nhyiraba Kojo City Night Club, near the Sakumono Community 18 Global Access Bank in Accra, after he had allegedly collected GH¢1,500 from one of his victims.

He was however, granted bail by an Accra circuit court.

During a search on the accused persons, the police retrieved a laser and a pair of handcuffs believed to have been used to harass their victims.
