Felicia Kufuor was busted waiting for a bag from Rio at Heathrow after it was placed on a carousel for domestic flights
The office of former President John Agyekum Kufuor has denied media reports that a Ghanaian living in the United Kingdom (UK), who has been convicted for smuggling cocaine, is a niece to the former president.
Felicia Kufuor is among three Ghanaians who have been convicted by a court in the UK for their various roles in the drug smuggling syndicate, which has seen its members jailed for a total of 139 years.
Soon after the news of the sentencing broke, social media were awash with reports that the said Felicia Kufuor is the niece of former President Kufuor, apparently because of her last name (Kufuor).
In a press statement, the office of the former first gentleman of the land distanced Mr Kufuor from the convict, saying the reports are “erroneously linking the said Felicia Kufour to the former president as his niece.”
“The office of former President John Kufuor wishes to let all in the media and the general public to know that the said Felicia Kufuor is in no way related to the former president. The former president wants to make it known to all and sundry that that individual is not known to him and is no niece or relative of his,” the statement categorically pointed out.
