THE 24 RECOGNIZED Transport Unions in Kumasi, the capital of the Ashanti Region, have reprimanded some of its members.
These drivers, unjustifiably, decided to take top government officials in the city to the cleaners, without any provocation.
TheTransport Unions have expressed shock and sadness about how some of its members decided to act unruly on radio.
They therefore decided to punish them to serve as deterrent to other drivers about the need for them to respect authority.
“We have heard these people (drivers) move from one radio station to another, raining insults on high level personalities in the city”.
“We would like to note that disciplinary actions have been taken against some of them”, the leadership of the 24 transport unions, said.
This was contained in a press release, authored by Nana Nimako Bresiamah, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the GPRTU and other union leaders.
He announced that other offending drivers are being handled by their various unions.
According to the GPRTU capo, the unions are happy about arrangements made so far by the Kumasi Mayor to enhance their operations in the city, in recent times.
Nana Bresiamah stated that his group would not allow any member to misbehave and dent the image of the respective unions.
He saluted Osei Assibey Antwi over his visionary leadership which has helped transform the operations of the transport unions in the city.
He implored the Kumasi Mayor not to pay attention to ugly-noise making drivers in the city and rather sustain his good works.
“The mayor has granted us a wonderful opportunity to enable us operate at the stations affected by the Kejetia relocation in the four terminals in Kumasi”, he stressed.
