NDC Will Break Up; Rawlings Cautions Injunction On Bongo Elections

Former President Jerry John Rawlings

A Bolgatanga High Court has placed an interlocutory injunction on the elections of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Bongo Constituency of the Upper East Region.

The constituency had scheduled 26th, 29th, and 30th April for mop-up.

Some nine aggrieved members of the party in the constituency secured the injunction against the elections, for which reason the NDC in the Bongo constituency will not be able to hold branch elections like other constituencies are doing in the region.

The nine members – Stephen Abowine Anafo, Asamane Atia Thomas, Akugre Agana, Abagbire Donatus Atambila, Richard Akonkabigo, Joseph Mba, Akubire Albert, Hanna Baba and Baba Timothy – claim they were unfairly disqualified from participating in the elections and therefore sued the party and succeeded in securing the injunction.

They want the court to look into their disqualifications.

The aggrieved members accused some executives in the constituency of deliberately skewing the election process to suit their personal interests.

In their view, their disqualifications are an attempt to diminish the chances of some members of the party who have expressed interest in contesting the parliamentary primary.

Meanwhile, former constituency elections director, who is currently assisting with arrangement for the elections, McClean Ayamga, has told DAILY GUIDE that the party’s leadership has been served with the injunction notice and efforts are being made to get the injunction lifted before the May 17, date pleaded by the plaintiff.
