An estate agent, who allegedly kept a minor in his room and had sexual intercourse with her for more than a week, has been remanded into custody by an Accra Circuit Court, presided over by Mrs Abena Oppong Adjin-Doku.
Daniel Sackey allegedly kept the minor in his room after she left home without the consent of the parents and had sex with the girl throughout her stay with him.
The girl’s parents reported the matter to the police and she was found in the washroom of the accused person at Awudome Estate in the Greater Accra Region on April 24, 2018.
He was hauled before the court on charges of abduction and defiling a minor under the age of 16 years.
He pleaded not guilty and was subsequently remanded by the court to reappear on May 14, 2018.
Chief Inspector J.B. Asante, who held brief for Chief Inspector Agnes Boafo, told the court that in May last year, the victim left home and spent more than a week with the accused person.
She said a complaint was lodged with the Madina Police Station but it was not pursued because the victim returned home.
According to the prosecutor, on April 18, 2018, the victim left home again to an unknown place and her mother who became alarmed, begun a search for her.
She stated that a complaint was lodged with the police and the accused was arrested.
Chief Inspector Asante told the court that during interrogation, the victim told police officers that the accused person had sexual intercourse with her throughout her stay with him.
She said a medical form was given to the mother to take the victim to hospital for medical examination, and the result confirmed that indeed she had been defiled.
The accused person, according to the prosecution, admitted the offence in his caution statement.
