The Ashaiman Police have apprehended five Nigerians in connection with internet fraud at Roman Down, a suburb of Ashaiman in the Greater Accra Region.
The names of the culprits were given as Christopher Okonkwah, 19, Eduiyouwiri Junior, 26, Matthew Ogheneruese, 25, Oke Newman, 31, and Erubasa Godspower, 22.
They were arrested for alleged assault and cyber crimes.
Items retrieved from them include nine laptops, five Nigerian passports, five pen drives, surfline Wi-Fi, 13 Glo SIM card boxes, modems, two power banks, 11 mobile phones, Shisha pipe, 10 CDS, as well as cash of GHC1,738 and 280 Naira.
Confirming the arrest to DAILY GUIDE, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) George Tano, Crime Officer of the Ashaiman District Police Headquarters, explained that the police received information about their activities, adding that that they live flamboyantly without known sources of income.
According to him, on May 11, 2018 at about 12:00pm, police gathered that the suspects assaulted one of their colleagues mercilessly over misunderstanding.
The crime officer stated that police personnel were deployed to the house to arrest the suspects with assistant of the complainant, who identified them.
He urged landlords, particularly those in gated communities, to always carry out background checks on prospective tenants in order not to violate the law.
ASP George Tano pointed out that the suspects would be arraigned before court after police investigations.
