Highways Tamale Office Shut Down

A visit by DAILY GUIDE to the Tamale office of the Ghana Highways Authority in the Northern Region revealed that the office has been temporarily closed.

DAILY GUIDE gathers that workers of the Ghana Highways Authority decided to close down the company for fear of further attacks by a supposed NPP youth group.

A notice on the main gate to the company read ‘All Highways Operations ceased from this day 21st May, 2018 till further notice!!! Workers under continuous threat.’

It will be recalled that the secretary to the director of Ghana Highways Authority in the region, Alberta Akorogo and some workers were allegedly attacked by a group believed to be affiliated to the New Patriotic Party.

Madam Akorogo was said to have been rushed to the Tamale Teaching Hospital for treatment.

Some workers of the Ghana Highways Authority had to flee for fear of being attacked by the supposed NPP youth group.

It was alleged that the group stormed the premises of the Authority demanding to meet the director to register their displeasure over what they described as ‘unfair treatment’ meted out to some NPP contractors in the region.

Madam Alberta Akorogo, who confirmed the incident to journalists, said a strange man came to the facility and asked to meet with the director.

According to her, she told the man that her boss was out of town and would be back the following week and so the man left. A few minutes later, she claimed the same man resurfaced with a group of young men shouting in front of the office block.

She alleged that the young men assaulted her and other workers while scattering some valuable materials.

The National Chairman of the Senior Staff Association (SSA) of the GHA, Osward A. Amanfo said their decision to close the company is to ensure safety of workers.

He averred that the workers will not return to office until their security is assured.
