AS PART of its corporate social responsibility, the Karpowership Ghana Company Limited was joined by some residents of Tema Newtown to embark on a clean-up exercise.

Several residents participated in the clean-up exercise, which started from the Eastern Naval Command through the ceremonial road to the Tema New Town main station before it ended at the Tema Manhean Community Health Centre.

Speaking during the exercise, the Corporate Communications Specialist of Karpowership, Miss Sandra Amarquaye, explained that the exercise organised in collaboration with the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) was aimed at creating awareness of proper waste management and the importance of maintaining a clean environment.

According to her, as an environmentally and socially responsible company, Karpowership is committed to promoting good environmental practices.

“This is not the first time we have embarked on a clean-up exercise with the community. As it has always been our tradition, Karpowership continues to support the communities in which it operates. We are hopeful that this exercise becomes a daily routine to ensure a clean, safe and a healthy environment for us all,” she indicated.

The Corporate Communication Specialist of the company stated that the exercise would be sustained. He appealed to the youth to make efforts to ensure optimum sanitation practices in the community.

“As part of Karpowership’s corporate social responsibility projects, the company does not only support  clean-up exercises but has provided a modern ICT lab for the Manhean Anglican School, water tanks to the fishmongers and the community schools, and bursary to over 100 students in the Manhean community, amongst other social intervention projects. We will continue to contribute our quota to the betterment of the community and the country in general,” she disclosed.

For her part, Dr. Ama Darko, the Senior Doctor at the Manhean Community Health Center was full of praise to Karpowership for its continuous support to the community.

“We are really grateful for coming out in your numbers to support this exercise. Since you began operations, the community health centre has benefitted from the social responsibility projects you undertake. We hope the relationship we have built together will linger on,” she said in admiration.

The assembly man of Sea Light electoral area, Hon. Joseph Ofori, also said the activity was important as the country is currently experiencing rainy season.

“The rains will start setting in soon and there is the need to ensure a clean environment” he stated.

He expressed gratitude to Karpowership for its commitment to the advancement of the community.
