Fake Doctor Busted

Dr Dauda Amidu Titus Adandada, ‘chief executive officer of  iz Group and Group President of the Medical’ Excellence Awards

A self-styled doctor, who has been parading himself as a kidney specialist at the renal unit of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital and seeking sponsorship to support his personal activities, has been arrested by a joint task force from the Medical and Dental Council and the Police Criminal Investigations Department.

The suspect, Dauda Amidu Titus Adandada, who parades himself as Dr. Dauda Amidu Titus Adandada, ‘chief executive officer of IZ Group and Group President of the Medical Excellence Awards’, was arrested after three of the institutions he allegedly approached for sponsorship and partnership wrote a letter to the Medical and Dental Council to enquire about his medical status.

One of the institutions, according to the council, had already parted with GH¢20,000 to the suspect before his arrest.

He is currently in the custody of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) assisting in their investigations.

Arrest

Briefing the media, the Registrar and Executive Director of the Medical and Dental Council, Eli Kwasi Atikpui, said in March 2017, the council received a letter from the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC) National Secretariat seeking confirmation on the status of one Dr. Dauda Amidu Titus-Adandada as a qualified and practicing medical practitioner.

He said checks in their database revealed that there was no doctor with such a name and reported back to GPCC.

Further checks from GPCC by the medical and dental council revealed that the suspect was trying to take advantage of one of the pastors who was having a kidney problem.

Dr. Atikpui narrated that undercover police operatives were detailed to attend one of his meetings with members of the GPCC where he told executives at the meeting that by virtue of his high level of expertise, his colleague doctors call him to attend to patients in various hospitals in and outside the country.

On Wednesday June 27, 2018, the Council again received a complaint from the Private Detectives Association of Ghana, with a complimentary card of Dr. Titus–Adandada, with the title ‘Physician Specialist’ with the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.

Further Checks at KATH by the Council revealed that the suspect was not known there.

With the help of the association, the Registrar of the Medical and Dental Council narrated that the suspect was arrested by CID on their premises on July 4, 2018 around 11am.

Medical excellence awards

Touching on the Medical Excellence Awards, Dr. Atikpui said the suspect claimed he instituted that award to appreciate health workers in Ghana and further goes about carrying himself as a medical doctor even though he had not attended any medical school.
