Speaker of Parliament Prof Mike Aaron Oquaye has paid glowing tribute to the founder of the Family Health Group, Prof Yao Kwawukume, and its management for their contribution towards the country’s healthcare delivery system.

The Speaker, who gave the commendation during a familiarisation visit to the Family Health facilities located at Teshie, Accra, appeared stunned at the huge investments made by the management to ensure that its patrons receive the best of services.

“Your investments are well registered and enough to tell the new image and direction you are taking healthcare delivery and which obviously will make you a provider of medical services comparable to any high class facility anywhere in the world. I encourage you to live up to your vision and mission,” he stated.

Prof Kwawukume expressed his appreciation to Prof Oquaye for the visit, indicating that the Family Health Group has set itself out to be a leading provider of affordable and comprehensive medical treatment and preventive healthcare services to its numerous patrons.

The founder, who is credited with his pioneering role in being the first doctor in the world to perform a bloodless myomectomy at a ceasarean section with the tourniquet among other landmark medical achievements, highlighted that the Family Health Teaching Hospital provides 24-hour services.

He continued that in its efforts of ensuring that it provides the best of medical services and turn out the next generation of professionals to manage the country’s healthcare delivery systems, management introduced a three-year Nursing and Midwifery programme and a two-year certificate programme in Nurse Assistantship (Clinical).

“We have come far, however, it is not enough to leave it at that and this is the reason we have established a medical school which is accredited by the National Accreditation Board (NAB) and affiliated to the country’s premier university, University of Ghana,” he stated.
