Fanteakwa South Rejects Nominee

Ntore Agyarbeng

Members of the Fanteakwa South District Assembly in the Eastern Region have rejected the President’s nominee for District Chief Executive (DCE) Ntore Agyarbeng.

Out of 25 assembly members present, 10 voted for Mr Agyarbeng while 15 voted against him.

He failed to secure two-thirds majority to become the DCE for Fanteakwa South in accordance with the Local Government Law.

According to the law, if the nominee gets half the number of votes there should be second voting.

The Regional Minister, Eric Darfour, called on some sympathizers of the former Fanteakwa South NPP chairman to remain calm.

The regional minister said, “What we have observed here today simply means the Fanteakwa South District does not need development.”

Mr Darfour pleaded with the assembly members to endorse the president’s nominee to facilitate development in the district.

Aggrieved sympathizers of the former NPP chairman attacked some assembly members, but the intervention of the police and the regional minister saved the situation.
