Kofi Ofori popularly referred to as “Bella” and Mohammed Aminu Zakari have been confirmed as Municipal Chief Executives (MCEs) of the newly created Ablekuma North and Ayawaso North Municipal Assemblies respectively.

It was a scene of wild jubilation among members and fans of the two  new MCEs. At the Mount Calvary Cross Ministry at Darkuman where the event took place for the Ablekuma North Assembly, the members and fans were seen pouring talc powder all over Bella’s head and shoulders signifying his victory while at the Kanda Youth Centre, the new MCE for Ayawaso North Mohammed Aminu Zakari burst into tears and remained speechless for some moments.

Municipal Director of Elections and Electoral Officer for Ablekuma North and Ayawaso, Joseph Addo Boateng and Abdul-Rashid Nantogmah, supervised the elections at their respective centres on Tuesday.

Kofi Ofori and Mohammed Aminu Zakari received 100% endorsement from their 10 and five assembly members each giving them more than the required two-third votes.

In their acceptance speeches, Kofi Ofori and Mohammed Aminu Zakari assured the assembly of a transparent administration which would depend on team work to solve the challenges of the assembly.

They indicated their commitment to work towards expanding the Internally Generated Fund (IGF) base of the assemblies in order to implement the developmental agenda they have set themselves to achieve.

The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Ishmael Ashitey, who sat through both events, reiterated that the nomination and confirmation of an MCE is a constitutional requirement by both government and assembly members.

“The President nominates a candidate and the assembly members confirm his or her candidature to become the Metropolitan, Municipal or District Chief Executive (MMDCE) for the assembly and it is in the light of this very important event that I urge you the assembly members to spare us the discomfort of having to come here a second time by voting massively to confirm your MCE,” he stated.

The Member of Parliament for Ablekuma North, Nana Akua Owusu Afriyie, who paid a glowing tribute to the assembly members for their level of cooperation, urged them to collaborate with the new MCE in their move towards solving the challenges of the assembly.
