Mahama Minister Dies In K’si

Former President Rawlings and Peter Anarfi-Mensah

A KEY MEMBER of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ashanti Region, Peter Kwabena Anarfi-Mensah, has passed on.

The late politician once served as the Ashanti Regional Minister during the tenure of former President John Dramani Mahama.

The late Anarfi-Mensah was said to be responding to treatment at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) but he suddenly gave up the ghost on Monday afternoon.

Former President and NDC Founder, Jerry John Rawlings, is said to be among NDC gurus that had visited him on his sick bed prior to his demise.

Close associates of the deceased politician said Mr. Anarfi-Mensah, a former headmaster of Tepa Senior High School (SHS), has not been well for some time.

His health status was not improving so his family rushed him to KATH in Kumasi where he was hospitalized and was initially responding to treatment.

But on Monday morning his condition began to deteriorate and he could not recover again, leading to his shocking death on Monday afternoon.

The paper learnt that his death had come as a big blow to the NDC in the Ashanti Region and Ghana in general, considering his immense political qualities.

Party insiders, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Anarfi-Mensah was among the key people that the party was depending on to restructure the party.

They said the late regional minister’s death would have adverse effects on the NDC, especially with regard to revamping the party in the Ashanti Region ahead of election 2020.

Meanwhile, people from different political backgrounds in Kumasi have called on radio to express their condolences to the bereaved family and the NDC.

Most of them described Anarfi-Mensah as a true son of Ghana, who did his best to serve his country in the education and political arena when he was alive.
