Berekum West NPP Takes On Effah Dartey

Nkrabea Effah Dartey

The Berekum West Constituency Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Peter Boampong,  has accused Captain (Rtd) Nkrabea Effah Dartey, former Member of Parliament (MP) for Berekum, of authoring a distorted article in the 3rd August edition of DAILY GUIDE which was full of factual inaccuracies.

He disclosed that the said article captioned, ‘Disaster in Jiniji’ was misleading and meant to throw dust into the eyes of the public.

Speaking at a press conference organised to set the records straight, the constituency chairman said “in the first place, the headline ‘Disaster in Jininini’  is misleading and an attempt to create confusion in the area.”

He said historically, the female warrior, who brought her children and other family members to the town, was not called Serwaa but Nana Amma Miansa.

“She came from Dormaa to settle at Jinijini because her hunters had discovered very clean water as stated in the said article by Capt Nkrabeah Effah-Dartey.

He stated that on arrival, the Krontihene of the hunters, created a settlement at Koraa and Jinijini.

“The Krontre group of hunters met the strangers who had just arrived and as tradition demanded they informed Nana Berekumhene, who asked them to bring the strangers. They, therefore, sent the strangers to the overlord who welcomed the new group and accepted them.

He said when the colonial masters were registering the leaders in the town, they met the Denkyira Group, who had numerical strength and registered their leader as the chief of Jinijini and Krontre became the head of the town (Kro no ti).

Mr. Boampong said, “Capt Effah-Dartey also stood for election in Berekum East when he lived in Berekum West.

The NPP executive quizzed: “Did the former MP not give inducement funds to delegates when he contested in the parliamentary primaries in Berekum which he lost miserably to the incumbent MP, who doubles as the Deputy Minister for Railway Development, Agyenim Boateng?”

Mr. Boampong revealed that the father of the President’s nominee, Martin Obeng Adjei, donated his personal house to the NPP to be used as office under the 4th Republic.

“Mr Adjei is the 2nd Vice Chairman of the NPP in the constituency. On the other hand, the father of Clement, the darling boy of Mr Nkrabeah Effah-Dartey, is the NDC Chairman at Koraaso and his mother comes from Nkoranza.

“For Nkrabeah Effah-Dartey to say Mr. Adjei does not live in the district is very laughable.

“As a former legislator Capt Effah-Dartey should know that a person is not required to live in the district or constituency before he or she can be nominated for any position in the district or constituency.

He reminded Mr. Nkrabea that his successor in the person of Kwaku Agyenim Boateng, a citizen of Jinijini, was domiciled in the United Kingdom (UK) where he was an active member of the NPP.

“He flew in to contest Capt (Rtd) Effah-Dartey, the then sitting MP during the NPP primaries and won hands down. He went on to win the parliamentary election and has since been in Parliament on three consecutive terms.

“If Mr Clement is the party’s choice and popular, why did he lose all the three parliamentary primaries in Berekum East and West Constituencies?”

“And why was he not included in the shortlisted persons submitted by the regional office to the national office for consideration?” he quizzed.

Mr. Boampong seized the opportunity to advise Capt (Rtd) Effah-Dartey to leave out the current MP for Berekum West, Mr Agyenim Boateng in his future write-ups so that the MP would have the peace to serve the people of Berekum West and Ghana as a whole.

Mr. Boampong said the former MP has been restless since losing all the three parliamentary primaries to Mr Agyenim-Boateng, saying “he continues to draw the MP into anything that happens in Berekum West which does not promote peace in the area.”
