Speaker Recalls Parliament

Prof Mike Oquaye, Speaker of Parliamen

Speaker of Parliament, Prof. Aaron Michael Oquaye, has recalled parliament from its long vacation for an emergency sitting from Monday, September 24 to Friday, September 2018.

A communication from the office of the speaker said the emergency recall had been necessitated by some urgent parliamentary business that ought to be considered.

However, details of the agenda for the emergency recall were not given but it is expected that some important bills will have to be considered while the elevation of some deputy ministers and nomination of some new ministers as a result of the president’s recent reshuffle of his ministers will require the approval of parliament.

Therefore the announcement of the new ministers is expected to be made in the House during the recall and the nominees referred to the Appointments Committee for their vetting and subsequent approval by parliament.

The recall would have taken place from September 14 but was rescheduled because of the funeral of the former UN Secretary-General, Kofi Annan.
