Newmont Donates Motorbikes To Police

The Brong-Ahafo Regional Police Command has received 10 motorbikes from Newmont Ghana Gold Limited to help them combat crime in the region.

The Yamaha motorbikes were received by the Acting Regional Police Commander, DCOP Edward Opoku- Kwarteng, on behalf of the police administration in the region.

The motorbikes are to support the Ghana Police Service (GPS) in the Brong-Ahafo Region to discharge their duties without any hindrance.

The General Manager of Newmont Ghana Gold Limited Ahafo Mines, Bernard Wessel, made the presentation on behalf of the company at the regional police headquarters in Sunyani recently.

“In 2016, the Regional Coordinating Council sent us a request to support the Ghana Police Service to acquire motorbikes to enhance their operations. It is in this light that we decided to support the police with these 10 Yamaha motorbikes,” he revealed.

He explained that the police remains the first point of contact for civilian population in matters of crime and security “so there is the need to resource them to enhance their capacity to ensure a safe and secure society.  We hope that those in charge of the service will manage and use the equipment well by putting in the right maintenance to expand its lifespan.”

Receiving the items, DCOP Opoku-Kwarteng stated that the motorbikes would enhance police duties in the region.

“Your donation today will go a long way to assist us execute our core responsibility of protecting life and property. Our vision is to be a world-class police service capable of delivering planned, democratic, protective and peaceful services to the standard of international best practices. The Ghana Police Service cannot operate accurately without assistance Ghana from organisations like Newmont Company so we ask other organisations to emulate their examples,” he stated.
