Chief Linguist, Queen Mother Murder Suspect Arrested

The Central Regional police command has arrested a young man suspected to be the one who has brutally murdered the chief linguist of Abura-Dunka in the Central Region, Okyeame Kwadjo Mensah, and his wife Ohemaa Efuah.

The suspect who has been identified as Maswood Ali Baba, according to a statement released by the police in the Central Region, “lodged with the deceased couple on the night of their death”.

He is so far the only suspect arrested since the gruesome murder of the Chief Linguist and his wife on September 3, 2018.

The statement from the police indicated that the arrest was effected following a painstaking investigation into the gruesome murder.

It stated that the suspect has been remanded into police custody and he will be processed for court.

The statement assured the general public of maximum security as it takes steps to bring the perpetrators to book.

It also called on the citizens to divulge information to the police to help fight crime.

Abura Dunkwa in the Central Region was on September 3, 2018 thrown into a state of mourning following the gruesome murder of the chief linguist, Okyeame Kwadjo Mensah, and his wife.

Okyeame Kwadjo Mensah, 48, and Ohemaa Efuah, 42, who is also the queen mother of Ajumako Etumbir in the Central Region, were murdered by some unidentified assailants on Sunday night in their room.

The family woke up the next morning to find the throats of their relatives slashed with a sharp object and reported the matter to the police.

The assailants did not take anything from the room after the attack, according to reports.

Confirming the story to DAILY GUIDE, the Director General in charge of the Public Affairs Department of the Ghana Police Service, Assistant Commissioner of Police, David Eklu, said the Central Regional Police Command received the report and quickly dispatched a team of investigators to the scene.

The couple was found in a pool of blood in the room with their throats slashed.

After conducting preliminary investigations into the matter, the bodies were transported to the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital Morgue pending autopsy.

Calm Returns

Meanwhile, calm has returned to the town following a protest by the youth in the area who had set five houses ablaze in protest of the murder of Bejamin Ato Acquah, a security man in the area.

Some irate youth of the area were reported to have set houses and other property belonging to some Malians (Zamramas), residing in the area, ablaze after they (Malians) were alleged to have murdered the 53 year-old security man.

The youth, after the news of the death of the security man broke out early Sunday morning, were reported to have gone to the residence of the Malians and burnt a lot of houses, motorcycles, money, and livestock.

But the Central Regional Police command has since restored peace to the area as efforts continue to arrest the perpetrators of the crime.
