NPP Executives Fight Mampong MCE

Thomas Appiah-Kubi

CONSTITUENCY EXECUTIVES of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Mampong Municipality of the Ashanti Region have called on President Akufo-Addo to oust the Mampong Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Thomas Appiah-Kubi.

They have accused the MCE of sidelining them as regards the activities of the Assembly to promote his personal interests at the expense of the party in the constituency.

In a 15-point petition to the president and signed by constituency executives, council of elders and patrons of the NPP at Mampong, the petitioners said they were dissatisfied with the conduct of Mr Appiah-Kubi and the way he goes about his business in the municipality.

According to the NPP executives, the actions and inaction of the MCE have created disaffection for the government and NPP in the Mampong Municipality, saying “it is unfortunate that those who laid down their lives have been marginalised.”

The petitioners stated that there had been lack of consultation on a number of issues between the party and the MCE, who has continuously demonstrated his selfish interests at the expense of party interests.

The constituency leaders have said the situation has reached crisis level and if it is not addressed immediately, it could have dire consequences for the party in the constituency.

“Since his appointment a year ago, the actions and inaction of the MCE have created disaffection among party faithful and supporters,” they declared, adding “it was as a result of his intransigent posture and uncooperative behaviour that dragged the election of the presiding member”.

The petitioners asserted that it took the intervention of paramount chief of Mampong, Daasebre Osei Bonsu, to get matters resolved in March this year.

Thomas Appiah-Kubi became the Mampong Municipal Chief Executive in May 2017 after receiving unanimous endorsement from the 46 members of the Asante-Mampong Municipal Assembly.

Until his appointment by President Akufo-Addo and subsequent endorsement, Mr. Appiah-Kubi was a tutor at the Saint Monica’s Senior High School.
