Total Petroleum Ghana Limited recently launched the second edition of the ‘Startupper of the Year’ competition in Accra.

Designed to support enterprising entrepreneurs who are aged 35 and below with young businesses, it entails mentoring them, as well as resourcing them financially.

According to Eric Fanchini, Managing Director of Total Ghana, the first edition of the flagship challenge took place in 2015 during which young entrepreneurs from 34 African countries participated.

Noting that there were over 102 winning projects, he said some 6,000 applications had been received from Ghana alone with three ultimate winners from the food processing industry being adjudged winners.

Mr. Fanchini said the latest edition would see participants from 55 countries.

He added that during this year’s edition one of the women would be adjudged the top Female Entrepreneur.

He said women contributed almost 25% of winners globally so Total Petroleum Ghana Limited was willing to give women in entrepreneurship an extra push.

Anne Sophie Avé, France Ambassador to Ghana, in a comment, said her country would continue to assist innovative Ghanaians to rise to the top.

Bright Dokosi, Project Manager of the ‘Startupper’ challenge, said that since Monday, October 9, 2018, the website has been receiving entries from entrepreneurs.
