THE TETTEH-OCLOO State School for the Deaf at Adjei-Kojo near Ashaiman in the Greater Accra Region is in serious crisis following drastic shortage of medical supplies in the school clinic to provide medical services.
With over 300 pupils, comprising both genders, the school is unable to use the clinic to provide excellent medical services to the special needs pupils.
The clinic is seriously facing challenges and the authorities of the school are appealing for support from individuals, philanthropists and corporate organisations.
The clinic lacks medical supplies such as pain killers, malaria drugs, cough syrups, blood tonic, allergy relief drugs, antacids, multivitamins, toiletries, sanitary pads, antibiotics, syringes and needles, sterile bandages, disinfectants, among others.
In an interview with DAILY GUIDE, Grace Otoo, the medical officer in charge of the school clinic, noted that “our sheds are empty and sometimes we find it extremely difficult to purchase even sanitary pads. We have to remove the pad from it – one for each girl having her menstruation because we cannot afford to give all the pack to the pupils to use when needed.”
She continued: “We wish to appeal to individuals to aid us financially to purchase the needed drugs and accessories for the clinic”.
This came to light when Amanark Group of Companies donated some food items such as bags of rice, gallons of cooking oil, cartons of mineral water, toiletries and cash sum of GH¢4,000 to the school.
Presenting the items, Director of Amanark Group of Companies, Mr. Alexander Amanor Narh Gbeeku, explained that his outfit was motivated by Mathew 26:36 which calls for support for the needy.
The director of real estate and pharmacies companies indicated: “Although this little presentation forms part of our corporate social responsibility, we are also believer of the gospel and believe in giving to the need.”
He promised to support the school clinic with some medical supplies. Head teacher of the school, Isaac Arthur, thanked the company for the kind gesture and appealed for support from other organisations and individuals.
