The Abiola Bawauh Foundation (abf) has made a passionate appeal to government and other stakeholders in the country to promote its ‘100 girls support’ project.
According to the Foundation, it intends to assist 100 girls through various means within a period of one year and would need all hands on deck to achieve the goal.
This was made known at the press launch of the Abiola Bawuah Foundation’s Day of the Girl Child.
According to the CEO of the Foundation, Marufatu Abiola Bawuah, education for girls is often the lowest budget priority in many countries.
“Daughters are perceived to be less valuable and once educated are less likely to abide by the will of the father, brother or husband,” she said.
She also called on Ghanaians to assist her foundation to dispel the misconception.
Marufatu Abiola Bawuah added that in many parts of the world, including Ghana, girls, who are pregnant, regardless of their circumstances, are excluded from school and many do not return after giving birth due to the stigma, lack of childcare and the unavailability of flexible programmes.
Ms Bawuah disclosed that her outfit is focused on increasing the enrolment of girls in basic schools in deprived communities.
She said they would promote quality education and ensure that girls stay in school and contribute to the growth of their community and country.
The Foundation gives opportunity to needy, deprived, vulnerable and less privileged girls to enrol in schools and ensure their retention.
It envisages a country where disadvantaged girls are empowered to make positive choices.
The board of trustees for the foundation include Dora Nana Hemaa Awindor, Marufatu Abiola Bawuah, Sheun, Elizabeth HayfronAsare and Nkechi Denise Akunyili.
