THE GREATER Accra Regional House of Chiefs (GARHC) has revealed that no chief has been properly installed at Prampram contrary to purported rumours concerning the installation of a chief.
According to the House, one Parker Kwaku was confined in a room pending installation but the process was not followed as per the custom of Prampram Traditional Area.
In a response to a request by the Ministry of Chieftaincy and Traditional Affairs for details on the supposed installation, the House stated: “In the instant case, the supposed candidate did not pass through the due process of selection, nomination and installation as purported . . . Also, the purported installation process and confinement was nullified by the security agencies because due process was not followed, and also for maintaining peace and order within the Prampram Traditional Area and its environs.” This was contained in a letter signed by the Registrar of the GARHC, Nathan Danquah.
According to GARHC, the candidate must be nominated, selected by the three prevailing gates of Prampram on a rotational basis.
The candidate after the selection is presented to the Dzaase who are made up of nine family heads as the main kingmakers.
It also stated that the Dzaase, after their confirmation of the candidate, then present the candidate to the Mankralo who together with elders of the Kle and the chief priest would then put the Symbol of Authority around the neck of the preferred candidate.
The Mankralo would present the candidate back to the Dzaase and the Prampram Stool Father for confinement, but Parker Kwaku did not follow the process.
Meanwhile, the GARHC has rescheduled to rule on the case over who is the rightful heir to the Prampram Paramount Stool on November 7, 2018, in order to bring finality to the matter.
