Alan Kyerematen with some of the traders
Alan Kyerematen, Minister for Trade and Industry, on Wednesday, led a sensitization and education event as part of the implementation of the Textile Industry Reforms programme in Accra.
The ministry would introduce tax stamp for locally manufactured and genuinely imported textiles, a designated entry corridor, revise the taskforce operation, collaborate with local textile manufacturers to ensure lower production cost, encourage textile importers to attract their foreign partners to set up factories in Ghana and put up an Import Management Committee to oversee import of textiles in the country.
These are aimed at enhancing the competitiveness of the local textiles industry.
In collaboration with Ghana Revenue Authority and Ministry of Finance, the Ministry has recruited a local IT firm, Grascon, to design and deploy the tax stamp.
Mr Kyerematen assured the traders that government would take steps to support them to increase their revenue.
