Pupils from the Ridge Church School on Friday, November 2 made donations to four organisations at the Ridge Church auditorium in Accra during their 2018 harvest and outreach programme.
The ceremony was held under the theme: ‘when you give to the poor, it is like lending to the Lord; and the Lord will pay you back’. (Proverbs 19:17).
In a brief sermon, the chaplain of the school, Rev. Laud Gyampoh, charged both pupils and parents to reach out to the poor and needy in the society because God would surely repay their good deeds in million folds.
To the beneficiary institutions, Rev. Gyampoh admonished them not to take into their possession the donated items.
He said when people make donations to orphanages and destitute homes, management of some of these organisations do not ensure that the donated items reach their intended targets. This, he said, deprives the givers their blessings from God.
Speaking to the media, Assistant Headmistress of the school, Sabina Yawson, disclosed that the donation forms part of the annual harvest programme of the Ridge Church.
She indicated that the beneficiary institutions were selected because they were known to have a good track record of truly delivering all items they receive from similar programmes in previous years, adding that this year’s donations were largely from the students.
Organisations that benefitted from the donation are the Angel Orphanage Home, Awaa Awaa 2 Foundation, Princess Marie Louise Children’s Hospital and the Children’s Department of the Ridge Hospital all in Accra.
The items donated included cartons of bottled water, packs of toilet rolls and tissues, bags of rice, bottles of cooking oil and tins of milk.
Others are crates of egg, loaves of bread, hampers, tubers of yam, detergents and soaps, beverages, cans of Milo, copies of New Testament Bibles, among other domestic items.
Representatives from the beneficiary institutions expressed their profound gratitude to the school and assured them that they would ensure given items reach their intended targets.
They prayed for God to bless and replenish the management and school and all those who donated.
The harvest and outreach programme of the Ridge Church School is an annual event instituted right from the onset by the founding fathers of the school. It is aimed at inculcating in the pupils the act of giving to the needy and the vulnerable, which is one of the basic precepts of Christianity, and also to give the pupils the opportunity to express their gratitude to god.
