RESIDENTS OF Cape Coast from all walks of life have benefited from a free health screening organized by the Chinese Community in Ghana.
An eleven member team of Chinese doctors on Saturday, November 10, 2018, screened the residents for various diseases ranging eye ailments, hypertension, waist and back ailments, among others.
Free Chinese and Orthodox medications were also given to the residents who were more than 150 in number and including both men and women as well as children and the youth.
The exercise supported by Association of Chinese Societies in Ghana, Ghana Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Council for the Promotion of Peaceful Reunification of China in Ghana, aimed at supplementing the government of Ghana efforts in quality health delivery.
The screening and donations were done in collaboration with local churches within Cape Coast namely Christ Alive Deliverance Chapel and Elsie Joy Outreach Ministries.
Head of the 11 member team comprising nine medical doctors and two Chinese translators, Prof. Liu Chenglong, expressed the need for free medical support and other assistance to be rendered to the less privileged within society.
Addressing the residents shortly before the commencement of the exercise, he said, “today, we are here to do something to help people in need. You know, it’s such a meaningful job if you can help somebody.”
Making reference to the medical team, he said “this is not only a professional group but also a team carrying love from China and the Chinese people.”
The screening center was mainly full with the elderly many of whom came with eye, waist and back complaints, among others.
Aside the screening, they sought advises from the doctors about ways to stay healthy or regain their health.
Vice President and Secretary General of Association of Chinese Societies in Ghana, Ghana Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Council for the Promotion of Peaceful Reunification of China in Ghana, Stephen Shum, in a brief remark to present the items, said “to supplement Ghana Government efforts in good health delivery we are here to donate these health related items and free medical screening to the people of this community in order to further strengthen our co-existence.”
According to him, Â “we are happy for your warmth welcome and pray that we together ensure that we sustain our good relationship.”
He added that “we will continue to offer our support in the coming years to those who need our assistance.”
The Chinese Community has remained helpful to Ghana and its people over the years since China and the West African nation entered their bilateral relationship back in 1958 during the reign of late President Kwame Nkrumah.
The relationship has reportedly been a win-win affair for both nations and Mr. Shum, one of the powerful Chinese national in Ghana, assured Ghanaians that the Chinese Community shall continue to positively contribute its quota to the socioeconomic development of Ghana.
