Yagbonwura Tuntumba Boru-Essa II welcoming President Akufo-Addo
The overlord of Gonjaland, Yagbonwura Tuntumba Boresa Sulemana Jakpa I, has praised President Akufo-Addo and his government for carving out the Savannah Region from the Northern Region.
Yagbonwura, in a speech read on his behalf by Abutu Kapori, the registrar of the Gonja Traditional Council and Secretary to the Overlord, said the dream has now become reality.
He expressed gratitude to the president for including Gonja in the new region.
The Electoral Commission (EC) is to hold a referendum on December 27, 2018 to create the proposed new regions.
“The coming into force of the Savannah Region would depend on us, we have all fought well and prayed hard for this dream to become a reality, well, now is the time to show how important the dream really is to us. I entreat you all to come out in your numbers on 27th December to vote massively in the referendum for the realization of that dream,” the Yangonwura said.
According to the Yagbonwura, previous governments have been petitioned over the years to carve out a new region from the Northern Region but none heeded the request.
“It is therefore refreshing to see in my lifetime that a President and government have seen the wisdom in creating a new region, the Savannah Region,” the Yagbonwura added.
The overlord of Gonja praised government for the allocation funds in the 2019 Budget for the construction of dams in Gonja.
He said the Akufo-Addo administration has the welfare of Ghanaians at heart.
Yagbonwura said all policies implemented by the NPP government have been human-centered which must be supported by all Ghanaians.
The Yagbonwura also admonished all persons in Gonjaland to be advocates of peace and development.
