A leading foam manufacturing company in Ghana and beyond, Ashfoam, has promised to sponsor some winners of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) awards held in October this year.
Making the first of several presentations, the management of Ashfoam and executives of the GJA handed over an L shaped Emefa sofa clean and stylish design furniture to the GJA Journalist of Year 2017 – Bernard Avle – at a short ceremony in Accra.
Presenting the award to Mr. Avle, communications manager of Ashfoam Ghana, Nana Yaw Ampem Darko, congratulated him and urged him to continue to use radio to facilitate conversations aimed at holding those in authority accountable. . .
“We at Ashfoam value the work that journalists do in this country. We believe that the development of the country, peace and unity that we enjoy is not the same elsewhere because the journalists in Ghana are quite responsible in delivery.
“We are urging all of you to continue this great job that you are doing. We believe that in the coming years you will raise the bar higher. Now, we are talking about development issues; that is what we all look up to instead of sensationalism and other things that do not help us,” he said.
General Manager of Ashfoam, George Massih, commended the GJA and the Ghanaian media for the work they are doing to promote the local company that has over 4,000 workers.
Mr. Massih said the company was committed to the best quality of home furnishing products that satisfy the needs of the customer; hence its ISO certification (ISO 9001-2008) that ensures that the quality management systems live up to international standards.
He however lamented the influx of secondhand mattresses into the country although the product has been banned. He said most often, these products that are dumped into the country are sub-standard and pose serious health risks to those who use it.
He therefore called on the media to champion public education on the health implications of using a hand-down mattress, especially if its origin cannot be traced.
Mr. Avle, host of Citi Breakfast show and general manager of Citi FM and Citi TV thanked the leadership of GJA for the honour and management of Ashfoam for the gesture, which he described as a ‘double bonus’.
Bernard Avle who is also the host of Point of View on Citi TV was among nearly 36 selected journalists in the country who received various awards at the ceremony held at the Kempinski Hotel in Accra.
