Chief Executive Officer of Mcdan Group of Companies, Dr Daniel McKorley, has rated Ghana tennis in 2018 as slightly above average.
As a result, he has given the assurance to do everything possible to ensure the sport assumes a paradigm shift this year and the year ahead.
He told the media after a bread breaking and the 2018 U-18 final at his East Legon residence on Boxing Day that plans were underway to make the sport very attractive in the country.
The astute businessman expressed satisfaction after the final saying, “I am really impressed with the kind of tennis exhibited by these players but there is room for improvement. We have to be more serious if we want to take these boys far. My outfit is always ready to uplift the ladder for Ghana tennis.
” We didn’t achieve much in the year under review, but trust me, we will fly in 2019, plans arre in place to restore the sport’s fortunes.”
It was Reginald Okantey, who defeated Johnson Acquah to win the maiden edition of McDan U-18 Boys tournament.
Okantey controlled his play from the back of the court with his fluid two-handed backhand and heavy forehead and won 6-2, 3-6, 6-3.
Okantey said in an interview that ”It feels amazing. Obviously, this is a very special trophy for all of us as players. Obviously, it’s quite astonishing winning this title; beating two top players back to back – namely, Samuel Antwi in the semifinals and Johnson Acquah in the finals. It means so much. I’m incredibly happy and incredibly proud of this moment.”
President of Ghana Tennis Federation, Isaac Aboagye Duah expressed gross thanks to Dr. Mckorley and his wife Mrs. Abigail Mckorley for their unflinching support for Ghana Tennis.
A special award was presented to Mrs Abigail Mckorley by the Secretary General of the Ghana Tennis Federation, Mrs Philipina Frimpong for her immense support for tennis in Ghana.
