The Northern Regional Police Command has commenced investigations into the killing of a Manager of the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) at Gbangu in the East Mamprusi District of the Northern Region.
The Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Mohammed Yusif Tanko, who confirmed the incident to DAILY GUIDE, said the police were doing their best possible to arrest the perpetrators of the crime.
According to him, the suspects robbed the deceased of an amount of GH¢50,000 and shot him twice in the armpit and around the lower back.
DSP Tanko urged residents of Gbangu to volunteer information to the police to arrest the perpetrators.
DAILY GUIDE gathered that the GWCL manager was shot and killed on the spot by some unknown persons at Gbangu.
The deceased, Mr. Joseph Miigaai Jakperuk, 40, and his three colleagues were travelling in two vehicles but none of his colleagues was harmed.
The body of the deceased has since been sent to the Tamale Teaching Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
Reports suggest that some unknown gunmen blocked the Gbangu road with pieces of wood and ordered an oncoming vehicle driven by the Deputy Distribution Manager of Accra East Region of GWCL to stop.
After stopping the vehicle of Mr. Jakperuk, the unknown gunmen shot and killed him on the spot.
Meanwhile, close relatives of the deceased are suspecting foul play in the killing of their relative indicating that he was targeted under strange circumstances.
