Executive Director of Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII), Linda Ofori-Kwafo, has called on the stakeholders in the creative arts industry to come together and fight the increasing rate of corruption in the country.
According to her, corruption hampers development, therefore, it is vital for the stakeholders in the creative arts industry to marshal all efforts to intensify the campaign in the fight against corruption.
Speaking at a day’s anti-corruption campaign workshop under the theme: ‘The Role of Music in Implementing the National Anti-Corruption Plan (NACAP)’, which was held in Accra, the GII boss said the fight against corruption and other social ills in the country needs the support of all Ghanaians.
She mentioned that corruption is becoming an institutional norm which needs to be eschewed and stressed that the creative arts stakeholders need to come together to help solve the problem.
Madam Ofori-Kwafo, however, commended the musicians, filmmakers and actors for organising the workshop to educate players in the creative industry on how to fight corruption in the country.
On his part, the 2016 VGMA artiste of the year, E.L, who is spearheading the anti-corruption campaign, expressed his sincerest commitment to the project and called on other celebrities to join the fight against corruption
In his welcome address, the MUSIGA President, Bice Osei Kuffour (Obour), said although Ghana is taking steps to stop corruption, it must put in more effort to root out the canker.
He commended E.L for his initiative and drive to join the anti-corruption crusade.
Obour expressed the union’s appreciation to STAR-Ghana for supporting the campaign.
The Programmes Director for GII, Mary Awelena Addah, in her presentation spoke about the various laws enacted by the state and measures taken to check corruption.
Present at the workshop were celebrities like Kidi, Elizabeth Tagoe of Tagoe Sisters fame, MUSIGA 1st Vice Bessa Simons, 2nd Vice Rev. Dr. Thomas Yawson, President of Film Producers Association of Ghana (FIPAG), Augustine Abbey (Idikoko), President of Ghana Actors’ Guild (GAG), Sammy Fiscian, Bob Smith Jnr., Oscar Provencal and Ziggy Netteyson.
The MUSIGA anti-corruption campaign will include the release of an All-Star song and video, a video on corruption, walks in Accra and Kumasi, a stakeholder’s conference, among others.
The workshop was organised by MUSIGA, in collaboration with GII and Star-Ghana.
