The National Identification Authority (NIA) will commence a national mass registration for members of the general public on Monday, April 29, 2019.
The exercise, expected to end on March 31, 2020, will enable every eligible Ghanaian to be registered on the National Identity Register and issued with the 2-D bar code Ghana Card.
The mass registration will take off in the Greater Accra Region from Monday, April 29 to Saturday, July 6, and later extended to the other 15 regions of the country systematically.
Speaking at a press briefing in Accra, the Executive Secretary of NIA, Prof. Kenneth Agyemang Attafuah, said the mass registration plan had been prepared to complete the registration, including the issuance of smart, dual-interface Ghana Cards to 85 per cent of Ghanaians aged 15 and above between April 29, 2019 and March 31, 2020.
“The registration exercise will also be extended to cover Ghanaians in the Diaspora, following the completion of the domestic registration,” he disclosed.
“NIA will undertake this exercise in close collaboration with Ghanaian Missions abroad and the Office of Diaspora Relations at the Presidency,” he added.
He said the NIA had divided the Greater Accra Region into two zones – Accra West and Accra East.
The Accra West operational zone registration will take place from Monday, April 29 to Saturday, May 25.
“Registration centres will be opened from 8:00am to 5:00pm each day, excluding Sundays and public holidays and will be set up in the Ga South (Bortianor, Ngleshie, Amanfro, Weija, Gbawe Domeabra/Obom); Ga Central (Anyaa, Sowutuom), Ga West (Trobu, Amasaman), Okaikoi (South, Central and North), Ablekuma (South, Central, West and North) and Odododiodio (Ashiedu Keteke) municipalities,” he disclosed.

He revealed that NIA would visit the Northern, Savannah and North East regions from August 13 to September 2, and later move to the Upper East and Upper West regions from September 12 to 29.
“Registration will then be carried out in the Bono, Bono East and Ahafo regions from October 10 to 30, while the Western and Western North regions will have theirs from November 11 to December 2.
