The accident vehicle
A 27 year old driver, Kwasi Twene Richmond who after giving lift to 14 school children in his pickup, unfortunately had an accident and killed three of them on the spot has now given up himself to the police at Sunyani.
Richmond on 22nd May, 2019 while plying Sunyani- Atronie road gave lift to 14 pupils who had then closed from school and were walking on the road to their various homes at Kufour Camp but unfortunately the car got involved in an accident and killed three of them instantly.
The deceased were Kwame Sowah, 11, Opoku Ajomah 8 and Godfred Sowala 8. Their bodies were conveyed to the Brong Ahafo Regional Hospital Morgue, Sunyani. The remaining 11 who also sustained various degrees of injuries were admitted at the same hospital for treatment. The driver after the accident absconded and the police were after him until he reported himself last Friday.
Latest report from the police indicated Kwasi reported himself to the police after 2 days of the accident. According to Brong Ahafo Regional Motor Transport and Traffic Department of Ghana Police Service second in command, ASP Anku Yao who spoke to DAILY GUIDE ,the driver reported himself to them and was given a police medical form to seek medical treatment at the hospital because he was unwell.
He further disclosed that ten of the children were treated and discharged leaving one whose condition was serious so has been referred to Komfo Anokye Hospital in Kumasi.
He said as at now no charge has been levelled against the driver because the MTTD administration is waiting for advice from the Attorney Generals Department. According to him the accident vehicle with registration number GR 5024- A, belongs to a company called Charams. He said a corona’s inquest has been obtained from the court to decide whether to determine the cause of death of the children who are still at the mortuary but said the driver has been given bail and asked to report to the police every day.
