A 60-year-old casual worker at the Akuse Government Hospital in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality of the Eastern Region is currently in the grip of the Akuse Police for posing as a medical doctor to perform abortion.
Sowah Warlk was arrested after months of police undercover investigation into his illegal operations at the hospital.
Sowah, who has worked at the hospital for over two decades, allegedly decided into venture into the profession to possibly make some cash.
Superintendent Winfred Asera-Nyarko, the Akuse District Police Commander, who confirmed the incident, said the suspect was arrested while he was performing illegal abortion as a medical doctor on June 6, 2019, with several medical equipment and supplies discovered in his residence.
The suspect has been provisionally charged for illegal abortion, impersonation and other related offences and has since been remanded in prison custody by the Odumase-Krobo Court.
Meanwhile, the hospital has disassociated itself from the illegal actions of the 60-year-old casual worker, but has promised to assist the police in the investigation to let the law take its course.
