General Corporal Frank Anokye, a police personnel stationed at the Teshie District Police Command, has been killed by a fuel tanker at Aklila, a junction at Tema Community 16.
Corporal Anokye, who was on a motorbike, met his untimely death when the driver of the fuel tanker, identified as George Kessor, 60, attempted to make a U–turn.
In the process, the policeman slammed into the DAF haulage truck which was turning towards his lane.
He was rushed to the Tema General Hospital where he died later while on admission.
The Public Relations Officer of the Accra Regional Police Command, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Effia Tenge, confirmed the incident to DAILY GUIDE, saying it occurred around 5am on June 30, 2019.
She said information received from the Baatsona Police Station, where the case is being investigated, indicated that the suspect, George Kessor, with fuel tanker with registration number AS 3840-C, was driving from Sakumono Estate Junction towards Vivian Farms area.
She said at a spot near Tema Community 16 Junction, the suspect decided to make a U-turn back to Aklika and in the process, dashed into the lane of the unregistered motorbike being ridden by Corporal Anokye.
“Corporal Anokye, according to our information, was from Shalom Spot Direction and rammed into the said fuel tanker,” she said.
DSP Tenge said the police officer sustained injuries and was rushed to C&J Medical Centre for treatment but he was later referred to the Tema General Hospital for further medical attention.
“He died the following day while receiving treatment at the health facility and the body has been deposited at the same hospital for autopsy,” she disclosed.
