JB’s Ghost Chasing Me – Suspect

Daniel Asiedu, aka Sexy Don Don

Daniel Asiedu, aka Sexy Don Don, the self-‘confessed’ killer of the late Member of Parliament (MP) for Abuakwa North, J. B. Danquah-Adu, has claimed the ghost of the MP keeps haunting him and he cannot sleep.

The accused person, who is on trial for the murder of the late MP, broke down in tears after telling an Accra High Court yesterday that he has been having sleepless nights for some time now, as he keeps seeing the ghost of the man he allegedly murdered.

Asiedu, who is currently on remand at Nsawam Medium Security Prisons, drew the attention of the presiding judge, Justice Lydia Osei Marfo, as soon as the case was called while the lawyers were yet to even announce themselves.

Given the chance to address the court, he began narrating how he had access to the home of the late MP on the night of the murder.

He told the court that he did not go to the house to rob, but his intention was to kill the late MP, as he was contracted by certain people in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to murder him.

Sexy Don Don told the court he was given GH¢20,000 as down payment to kill the MP with further promises to give him extra monies when the job was done.

The accused also told the court that he was promised by his contractors that he would only spend a year in prison and would be released after his arrest.

He added that he did not scale the wall into the house of the late MP, but was granted access, alleging that the deceased’s wife knew about the whole plot.

Innocent

Daniel Asiedu also attempted to ‘exonerate’ Vincent Bosso who is alleged to have conspired with him to rob the late MP.

He told the court that the second accused person knows nothing about the murder, as he claimed he (Asiedu) committed the crime alone.

Earlier ‘Confession’

Daniel has on two occasions during the committal proceedings ‘confessed’ to the court that he murdered the late MP but said he did it alone and his accomplice had nothing to do with it.

He said he had planned the murder with some other people but had not seen or heard from them again since he was arrested.

He also told the court in his initial statement that it is not true some members of the now opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), who were then in government, contracted him to kill the MP, as his contractors were members of the governing NPP.

Justice Marfo, however, told Asiedu to hold his comment for his lawyer, Augustines Obuor, who was not in court at the time.

She said the court could not set Vincent Bosso free based on Asiedu’s statement as she could only work with the charges and facts that were before the court.

Case Jury

Meanwhile, the presiding judge has indicated that she is ready to dispose of the case as soon as possible as it has lingered for a long time.

She subsequently adjourned the case to March 18, 2020 to empanel a jury to hear the case.

The court was compelled to adjourn the panelling of the jury as the lawyer for the accused persons did not show up and the court held that it was very important for him to be present for the exercise.

The prosecution led by Hilda Craig, a Senior State Attorney, told the court that she was aware Mr. Obuor had a case in another court and could be engaged there.

Trial

Asiedu, who according to the prosecution stabbed the late MP multiple times in the neck and chest, is facing three charges of conspiracy, robbery and murder, while his accomplice has been charged with conspiracy to rob.

The two have pleaded not guilty to the charges levelled against them.
