CIMG Bill Passed

A BILL to establish a regulatory body that will set standards in the marketing profession and provide for related purposes has been passed.

The Chartered Institute of Marketing, Ghana Bill, 2019, cleared its final hurdle in Parliament on Thursday, June 04, 2020, and has since been sent to the President to give his assent to it.

Commenting on the news, the National President of CIMG, Dr. Daniel Kasser Tee said the passage of the bill had brought relief to marketers in the country.

“CIMG will now have the requisite legal backing to set standards for the practice of marketing and regulate the practice of the marketing profession in Ghana,” he noted, adding that the bill, when it becomes law, would empower CIMG to provide education and training as well as conduct professional examinations locally.

Dr. Kasser Tee said this would save the nation the cost of foreign exchange through the payment of membership dues and examination fees to external marketing bodies.

“It is now our turn to demonstrate how beneficial the passage of this bill is to professional marketers, student marketers and mother Ghana. We, therefore, eagerly await the signing into law of this approved bill by H.E. President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.”

The Executive Director of CIMG, Kwabena Akuamoah Agyekum also expressed delight about the passage of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, Ghana Bill, 2019, pointing out that “the governing council, management and staff of CIMG are equally elated.”

He praised President Akufo-Addo and his government as well as the current Parliament for seeing to the passage of the bill.

Mr. Agyekum singled out the Majority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu for special commendation, and called on members of the CIMG to contribute their quota, “by putting all hands on deck to deepen the practice of marketing in ways that will positively impact businesses, households and the Ghanaian society at large.”
