President Akufo-Addo doing the symbolic sod-cutting
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has said the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government is committed to partnering with the private sector to deal with the waste management problems of the country.
He has, therefore, commended the efforts of waste management giant Zoomlion Ghana Limited (ZGL) and said government is open to give them the needed support to provide waste management infrastructure towards a lasting solution to Ghana’s waste problems.
The President made the commitment at the sod cutting for the installation of a solid waste treatment plant in Goaso, the capital of Ahafo Region, to be built at a cost of 15 million Euros.
“Zoomlion has proven beyond reasonable doubt that it is the panacea to Ghana’s waste management problems over the years, and I will support it to succeed. And I am not ashamed; that is why everywhere it goes, I make time to go there to back it up,” he said.
Early on, President Akufo-Addo had cut sods for similar facilities within a week in Techiman and Sunyani in the Bono East and Bono regions respectively.
He assured the chiefs and people of the Ahafo Region that there was no way his government would ignore them when distributing developmental projects, adding, “You too deserve development like others.”
The Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, Cecilia Abena Dapaah, said the government was doing its best to provide the needed infrastructure for the benefit of the people of Ghana, including the Ahafo Region.
She commended ZGL for its efforts and gave an assurance that all the waste the region generates would be turned into compost for the purposes of agriculture and the plastics for household and recreational purposes.
The Executive Chairman of the Jospong Group of Companies (JGC) and ZGL, Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong, commended the President for making time to supervise the sod-cutting programmes that would help to deal with sanitation issues in the country.
He said his company would make sure it supported government policies to succeed.
