The MP opening the newly built classroom block
The Member of Parliament (MP) for Akuapem North in the Eastern Region, Nana Ama Dokua Asiamah-Adjei, has commissioned a two-classroom block and a sickbay for the Akropong School for the Blind.
At the short ceremony, she said there was the need to help vulnerable people like the students to have hope and pursue better education, without neglecting them.
“These people are so special so we try as much as possible to always respond to their calls just to make sure they are touched positively. The school authorities can confirm that we have done a lot for the past three years that we have been in power and for now, we are also considering tarring all the school roads,” the MP said.
“When it comes to basic necessity in education and other sectors this constituency has had its fair share. We go beyond the pass mark… At least a minimum of two to three projects is ongoing at the various senior high schools found in the constituency mostly funded by the Infrastructure for Poverty Eradication Programme (IPEP) and GETFund,” she added.
Besides, she said there is a new nursing training facility currently under construction at the Tetteh Quarshie Memorial Hospital at Mampong.
The Headmistress of the school, Mahela Narh, expressed her gratitude to the assembly and the MP for supporting the school and also called on other corporate bodies to help it.
“Most of our school structures need renovation because we suffer a lot during the rainy season. Some of our blocks get flooded. Government alone cannot do all; every one of us must be ready to support too. The schoolchildren come from the various corners of the country,” she appealed.
She mentioned how the school had helped shape the lives of the visually impaired who would have been on the streets begging.
