Depot Club Lifts Maiden Holy Trinity Tennis Challenge

The Depot Tennis Club of Accra has emerged winners in the inaugural Holy Trinity Monthly Inter-Club Tennis Challenge after subduing Kaneshie Complex Tennis Club (Kalatec) at Sogakope.

 

In a keenly contested men’s singles final, Richard Borluvie of Depot Tennis Club beat Charles Fletcher of Kalatec 7- 6 (4), while in the men’s doubles, Etornam Gblende and Fred Baimbil Johnson (Pasino) of Depot Tennis Club defeated Happy Dzah and Dr. Kafui Tetteh of Kalatec 7-5.

 

The women’s singles final witnessed Oforiwaa Aboagye of Depot Tennis Club beat Adubea Sarkodie of Kalatec 7- 4.

 

Tournament Director Henry Boni-Quarshie outlined the objectives for institutionalising the monthly Holy Trinity Monthly Inter-Club Tennis Challenge at Sogakope under the auspices of the Ghana Tennis Federation (GTF).

He emphasized that all the monthly winners will qualify for the Holy Trinity Social Tennis Grand Slam scheduled for this December.

He said the facilities at the its health farm are currently being upgraded to meet international specifications to enable them to qualify to host future Confederation of African Tennis (CAT) as well as International Tennis Federation (ITF) events, especially at the Holy Trinity Spa & Health Farm.

 

Special awards were presented to players who excelled in specific tennis benchmark skills, including Moses Oduro of Depot Club for ‘the play of the day’, Stephen Angmor also of Depot Club for ‘the best backhand shot’ and Adubea Sarkodie of Kalatec Club for ‘the most determined player’.

 

The Chairman of the Holy Trinity Tennis Club, Dr. Cyril Bansah, expressed gratitude to Depot and Kaneshie Sports Complex and urged other clubs in the country to sign up and participate in the monthly tennis challenge.

 

He re-emphasized the appropriateness of the location of the Holy Trinity Spa & Health Farm for the development of tennis in Ghana considering the beautiful serene sprawling riverbank.

 

The chairman commended the Executive Chairman of the Holy Trinity Spa & Health Farm, Dr. Felix Anyah a tennis enthusiast, for his immense support for institutionalising the monthly inter-club tennis challenge as well as the annual Social Tennis Grand Slam.

 

Ho Tennis Club will battle the Regional Maritime Tennis Club in Accra this October in the next competition.
