Fuel Attendant Shot Dead

A Shell filling station fuel attendant has been shot dead by armed robbers at Ashalaja in the Ga West Municipality of the Greater Accra Region.

The deceased, Emmanuel Kwarteng, according to information, was the first victim to have been approached and shot when the five-man robbery gang attacked the station around 2:00am on Friday. The other attendants, according to the police, were asleep when the attack took place.

An unspecified amount of money was taken away by the robbers, and according to the Amasaman District Police Command, patrols have been intensified in the area as investigations go on.

The Accra Regional Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Effia Tenge, said the police received information of the robbery attack around 2:00am but on arrival, the armed robbers had fled the scene.

She said Emmanuel Kwarteng was found lying in a pool of blood with deep cuts on his head and neck.

“Our preliminary investigations revealed that the station manager, together with the deceased and two other fuel attendants, after close of work retired to bed in the various offices around 11:00pm,” the police revealed.

According to DSP Tenge, the workers said around 1:30am, five masked men armed with metal bars and machetes and other offensive weapons broke into their offices and asked them who among them was the manager.

She disclosed that the robbers led the victims, including the manager, to the cubicle where the station’s safe was and took the keys to open the safe where they collected the moneys being kept there.

The body of the deceased has since been deposited at the Police Hospital morgue for preservation while investigation continues.
