In the citation, the Association expressed gratitude to Dr. Ofori-Tenkorang for his visionary and inclusive leadership as well as his partnership and recognition of the Association.
An excerpt from the citation presented to Dr Addo-Kufuor read: “Dr Kwame Addo-Kufuor, the National Pensioners Association say Ayekoo to you for your altruistic leadership , generosity of spirit and above all empathy towards pensioners and their issues.”
In his acceptance speech, Dr. Addo-Kufuor, thanked the Association for the honour.
He indicated that when he appointed as Board Chairman of SSNIT, he committed to focusing and returning the Trust to its core mandate.
He said “the welfare of pensioners was specifically very important to me and the Board, because after giving the country the best years of your life, you deserve to retire in dignity and relative comfort.”
“That is why, the strategic direction of the Board has been to ensure that management takes decisions that will positively impact stakeholders and strengthen the long-term sustainability of the Trust,” he said.
“So initiatives like the deletion of ghost names from the pensioner payroll even though uncomfortable, is necessary so we can save the Trust some monies and prevent waste,” Dr. Addo-Kufuor said.
