Andre Ayew kneels to thank Almighty Allah after his second goal
Andre Ayew scored two brilliant goals as Ghana’s Black Stars continued their perfect start to the AFCON 2021 qualifying campaign in Cape Coast.
After a cagey opening, Ghana went close to taking the lead, when Jordan Ayew failed to get a telling touch on Andre Ayew’s shot across the face of goal.
However, after 18 minutes, Andre Ayew gave Ghana the lead, with a fantastic curling free kick into the top right corner.
The Black Stars went close to doubling the lead soon after, but Sudanese goalkeeper, Ali Eshrein saved well with his foot to deny Samuel Owusu.
Ali Eshrein made another good save from a goal bound Alexander Djiku header, as Ghana continued to mount pressure on the Sudanese.
There was some confusion at the tail end of the first half after Sudan Head Coach, Hubert Velud and the linesman were involved in a slight scuffle after the referee waved off a penalty shoot by Sudan.
On the strike of halftime, Andre Ayew headed in what looked like Ghana’s second, but the referee ruled out the goal for a foul on the Sudanese defender.
Sudan started the second half brighter and almost leveled things, through Mohammed Abdelraman, but his header went narrowly wide.
Both teams pushed forward, but it was Ghana who grabbed their second goal, and in style.
Andre Ayew dribbled past two defenders, cut onto his left foot and curled past Ali Eshrein to double Ghana’s lead.
The Black Stars went close to adding a third through Jordan Ayew, but it finished 2-0 to C.K Akonnor and his men, who extend their winning streak in the qualifying series to three.
