Samson Kwame Nyamekye
Samson Kwame Nyamekye, the Ashanti Regional Boss of UTV, was yesterday given a hot chase by angry-looking opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) women.
The incident happened at the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) in Kumasi, as a top journalist had to run for his life.
Led by the ex-NDC Member of Parliament (MP) for Tano South, Hanna Bissiw, who is also the NDC National Women’s Organizer, the angry ladies were at the RCC to submit a petition over their political party’s defeat.
Mr. Nyamekye and his crew were also stationed in front of the RCC to provide coverage for the event, but the ‘so-called’ petition presentation turned chaotic in the end.
According to the NDC ladies, UTV and in particular Mr. Nyamekye were bias in their reportage and claimed they (UTV) contributed to the NDC’s December 7, 2020 election defeat.
Initially, Mr. Nyamekye ignored the barrage of insults and threats that the NDC women hurled at him as he concentrated on his work of reporting the event.
But things turned from bad to worse for him as the NDC women tried to manhandle him. Sensing danger, the journalist then took to his heels and he was chased.
Mr. Nyamekye, who relied heavily on his athleticism to flee from harm’s way, eventually jumped into a waiting car of a certain woman, who sped off from the scene.
After the UTV boss had left the scene, the NDC members then turned the heat on other journalists present. They said journalists in the country contributed to the NDCs defeat.
No Petition
Interestingly, after making everybody in Kumasi believe that they were heading to the RCC to submit a petition, the NDC women failed to honour their promise eventually.
The RCC officials that were waiting at the entrance of the RCC to receive the petition were left disappointed as the NDC women said they had no such petition to deliver.
The NDC women then resorted to the hurling of insults and insinuations at anyone on sight. They insisted that the NDC won the presidential elections but they had been cheated.
The armed policemen that were at the RCC at the time, displayed professionalism as in the face of extreme provocation and managed to ensure law and order.
Placards
Before arriving at the RCC, the NDC women impeded traffic flow in the city as they marched through the principal streets of Kumasi without prior permit from the police.
