A 22-year-old believed to be a hardened criminal is in the grips of the police after he bit off a policeman’s finger.
Eric Awutey is currently in the custody of the Millennium City Police Command in Kasoa in the Central Region after destroying Corporal Kassim Aminu’s thumb with his teeth when the policeman tried to arrest him for a stealing offence.
According to the police, Awutey has been on their wanted lists for a long time for series of crimes he committed, and has been eloping anytime he was found.
The police officer has been rushed to the Kasoa Polyclinic for treatment while the suspect is also in police custody
Millennium City District Police Commander, DSP Charles Atuah, said Awutey had been stealing from people, and recently he stole building blocks belonging to a woman who filed a complaint.
“Our men, led by the victim, went to the suspect’s house and found him in his room. When we attempted to arrest him and bring him to the office a struggle ensued. In the process, he bit Corporal Aminu’s finger completely off and the victim started bleeding profusely.”
“He is in our custody pending investigation and appropriate action,” he said.
